Brina Kafol Žust

Brina Kafol Zust received her first flute lessons from Nataša Hladnik and Matej Grahek in her hometown of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She later studied with Prof. Wolfgang Schulz at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She completed her master’s degree under Prof. Erwin Klambauer in Graz. She drew artistic inspiration from distinguished musicians such as Emmanuel Pahud, Robert Aitken, Gaspar Hoyos, James Galway, and Felix Renggli.
Brina has won numerous awards at national and international competitions. In 2008, she was appointed principal flutist of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, where she served as first flute for ten years. After moving to Berlin in 2014, she began performing as a substitute musician with some of Germany’s leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne.
As an active chamber musician, Brina performs in the Slovenian Flute Trio with flutists Marko Zupan and Boris Bizjak. The ensemble was founded four years ago and has since performed at various festivals around the world. They recently released their first CD featuring music by the French composer Eugène Walckiers. His flute trios were recorded for the first time in the world.
Brina has also given numerous solo concerts with various orchestras, performing repertoire ranging from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to contemporary works.
