Marina Matolić

She was born in Županja. She completed her primary and secondary music education in Županja and Osijek (under Prof. Damir Sekošan). She graduated in piano from the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Prof. Jurica Murai. In addition to her piano studies, she studied harpsichord for two years in the class of Prof. Višnja Mažuran, and in 1999 she completed a two-year postgraduate piano program in the class of Prof. Zvjezdana Bašić, earning the title of Master of Music Arts. Since 1997, she has been permanently employed at the Academy of Music in Zagreb as an artistic advisor.
As a soloist and in chamber ensembles, she has performed at numerous festivals and competitions in Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia, and Chile. She won 2nd prize at the International Piano Competition in Rome in 1996, and participated in EPTA seminars in Dubrovnik in the classes of Prof. Sebastian Benda, Walter Groppenberger, and Peter Donohoe. She has also worked as an artistic collaborator at seminars led by many renowned Croatian and international artists (Milan Turković, Dunja Vejzović, Guy Deplus, David Seidel, Sharon Kam, Davor Reba, Milko Pravdić, Žarko Perišić, Jože Kotar, Radovan Cavallin, Nicholas Cox, Gábor Varga, Ognjen Popović, David Blumberg, Ferdinand Radovan, Cynthia Hansell-Bakić, and others).
Niz godina djeluje kao službeni umjetnički suradnik međunarodne ljetne škole na Braču, na međunarodnom natjecanju VIMM Varaždin/Virovitica, natjecanju “Bistrički zvukolik“, Ljetnoj glazbenoj školi „Sinj“, te “Papandopulo” natjecanju za duhače. Na svim istaknutim natjecanjima u Hrvatskoj osvaja mnogobrojne državne nagrade kao umj.suradnik. Također osvaja zlatnu i dvije srebrne plakete na natjecanju zborova Hrv. glazbene mladeži u Varaždinu.
She is a co-founder of the chamber trio “Lumina” (Reba, Vrgoč, Matolić), the chamber trio Kušan/Župić/Matolić, the vocal trio “Bouquet” (Homen, Ruško, Matolić), and the duo “Pfagottiano” with bassoonist Žarko Perišić, with whom she performed in Santiago, Chile in 2021, premiering Croatian compositions for bassoon and piano. With the trio “Jongen” (Penezić, Perišić, Matolić), she has recently released their first album, Ibis, featuring works by Croatian composers.
Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in pedagogical work. She is a licensed teacher of the Yamaha Music School and was a long-time leader of the children’s choirs “Bajka” and “Čarobni zvuci,” for which she writes songs and arrangements; in 2011, she released a CD of children’s songs titled Abeceda. She also produces and creates musicals and music projects for children. For several years, she worked as the artistic director and conductor of the Choir of Nurses and Medical Technicians at KBC Zagreb. She is a member of numerous music associations.
