Lovro Marušić

Lovro Marušić (Omiš, 1992) is a Croatian pianist and Assistant at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb. He received his first piano lessons from Prof. Rozalija Samodol in his hometown of Omiš. At the invitation of the renowned Russian pianist Natalia Trull, he moved to Moscow in 2006, where he graduated in 2011 from the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory. He studied at the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Ruben Dalibaltayan and Ljubomir Gašparović. He received both the Dean’s Award and the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb for outstanding achievements during his studies. He continued his advanced training at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar.
He won first prize at the “Santa Cecilia” International Competition in Porto (2018), the International Music Festival in Paris (2018), the International Young Stars Competition in Manchester (2016), the World Piano Teachers Association International Competition in London (2017), and was the overall winner, jury prize winner, and audience prize winner at the “Isidor Bajić” International Piano Competition (2016). He also won first prize for the best performance of a work by Johann Sebastian Bach at the International Piano Competition in Varaždin (2016), as well as first prize for the best performance of a Croatian composer’s work (Ferdo Livadić) at the “Jurica Murai” International Piano Competition in Samobor (2016), in addition to prizes at the “Alexander Scriabin” International Competition in Paris (2011) and the “Mihailo Vukdragović” International Piano Competition in Šabac (2016).
Lovro Marušić confirmed his international reputation by winning the Silver Medal and the special Robert Schumann Award at the prestigious International Telekom Beethoven Piano Competition in 2023 in Bonn, as well as the Silver Medal in Cleveland at the Cleveland International Piano Competition in 2021.
He is the recipient of numerous significant awards at prestigious piano competitions, including First Prize at the 20th Santa Cecilia International Competition in Porto (2018), First Prize at the IMF International Competition in Paris (2018), as well as First Prize, the Jury Prize, and the Audience Prize at the Isidor Bajić International Piano Competition in Novi Sad (2016).
He received his first piano lessons from Rozarija Samodol in his hometown of Omiš. At the invitation of the renowned Russian pianist Natalia Trull, he moved to Moscow in 2006 to attend the Central Music School of the State Conservatory “P. I. Tchaikovsky,” which he successfully completed in 2011. He began his studies at the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Ruben Dalibaltayan and continued and graduated in the class of Ljubomir Gašparović. He pursued his postgraduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar in the class of Grigory Gruzman.
He has performed with eminent orchestras and outstanding chamber ensembles such as the The Cleveland Orchestra, Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, the Belgrade Symphony Orchestra, the Irkutsk Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Croatian National Theatre in Split, the Escher String Quartet from New York, Beethoven Trio Bonn, as well as the Zagreb Soloists and the Split Soloists.
He is the recipient of the Rector’s and Dean’s Awards of the University of Zagreb for outstanding academic achievements during his studies. As a soloist and chamber musician, he performs at various festivals and concert series throughout Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Liechtenstein, Russia, France, and the United States. He is currently employed as Assistant at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb in the piano department and serves as Artistic Director of the international chamber music festival “Ostinato” in Omiš.
In the 2023/2024 season, he is scheduled to appear as a soloist and chamber musician on tours in China, on a tour with the Slovak Philharmonic and conductor Daniel Raiskin, as well as in recitals and performances in Italy, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and throughout Croatia at prestigious festivals, with eminent orchestras and in major concert halls.
