Tomislav Damjanović

Tomislav Damjanović (1992) is a pianist from Supetar, where he began his musical education. At the age of ten, he started learning piano in the class of Professor Ljubica Rudolfi at the branch department of the Josip Hatze Music School in Postira. After completing his elementary music education, he enrolled in the Josip Hatze Secondary Music School in Split in the class of Professor Kosovka Čudina, graduating in 2011. That same year, he became a full-time student at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb in the class of Professor Đorđe Stanetti, and he completed his Master’s degree in 2016 in the class of Professor Danijel Detoni.

After completing his studies in Zagreb, he pursued further training at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar in Germany under Professor Grigory Gruzman, and in the class of Professor Dr. Milana Chernyavska at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in Austria.

From the very beginning of his musical path, he distinguished himself with numerous first prizes at competitions for young pianists in Croatia (National Competition of Music and Dance Students, Young Virtuosi – Etudes and Scales, Zlatko Grgošević, Daleki akordi, and others). He has received major awards and special recognitions at international competitions, including the EPTA Young Pianists Competition in Osijek, the Amici del Pianoforte Festival in San Daniele (Italy), the Grand Prix Jurica Murai in Varaždin, the Leoš Janáček Competition in Brno, and the International Piano Competition in Stradella (Italy). In 2019, he became a laureate of the 52nd Darko Lukić Young Musicians’ Tribune.

His performances include numerous concert halls in Croatia and abroad, such as the Croatian Music Institute, the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, the Ivo Tijardović Concert Hall at the Croatian Home in Split, the Foyer of the Croatian National Theatre in Split, the Governor’s Palace in Rijeka, the Beethoven-Haus Bonn, the City Hall in Jena, the concert hall in Darmstadt, the Music Academy in Brno, the Goethe Center in Bologna, the Kazina Hall in Ljubljana, and many others.

In addition to solo recitals, he has performed in chamber ensembles and as a soloist with various orchestras. He has collaborated with musicians such as violinist Martin Krpan, saxophonists Gordan Tudor and Tomislav Žužak, baritone Benjamin Appl, and orchestras including the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Zagreb, the Darmstadt Chamber Orchestra, and the chamber string orchestra Splitski virtuozi, under conductors such as Tomislav Fačini, Alun Francis, Christard Janetzko, and Vladimir Kossjanenko.

He has participated in prestigious festivals and concert series such as Glazbeni umjetnici Zagrebu, the Ostinato Festival in Omiš, concerts at Salon Očić, the Ranko Filjak Memorial in Petrinja, the chamber concert series of the Jena Philharmonic, the Solo Song Days of the Weimar Academy of Music, and many others.

He is the recipient of numerous scholarships and recognitions, including the Dina Škrapić Foundation Award in Rovinj, awarded biennially to the best young pianist. In 2014, he received the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb for his performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Zagreb Philharmonic at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. For his academic achievements, he became a scholarship holder of the Deutschlandstipendium Foundation in Weimar in 2018, and in 2019 he received the Plaque of the City of Supetar for outstanding achievements in the field of musical culture.

He has attended masterclasses with renowned figures in piano pedagogy, including Natalia Trull, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Aquiles delle Vigne, Kemal Gekić, Arbo Valdma, and many others.

He is employed as an artistic associate at the Wind Instruments Department of the Academy of Music in Zagreb and as an external associate at the Piano Department of the Arts Academy of the University of Split.
